Batesville Road Widening Project – Provide Your Comments to SCDOT by November 23
Update 1:
On November 15, the Pelham Falls HOA board voted unanimously to recommend Alternative 2 as being in our community’s best interest.
On Tuesday, November 9, the South Carolina Department of Transportation held a public meeting at Oakview Elementary School to provide information on its plan to widen Batesville Road between SC-14 and Anderson Ridge Road.
At the meeting, SCDOT presented two alternatives for the widening project. They have asked for public comment by November 23.
Existing Alignment Alternate involves widening the current Batesville Road to three lanes with a sidewalk on the Pelham Falls side. Property acquired for the project would bring the road up to the edge of our volleyball court and close to our front pool. This plan also involves moving 100+ graves from the church cemetery on our side of the road.
New Alignment Alternate involves building a new, three lane Batesville Rd. with sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the roadway. The new roadway would be located on the other side of the church and a new bridge constructed across Rocky Creek. Pelham Falls Drive would be extended and a traffic light installed at the intersection. Portions of the existing roadway would be removed. No graves would be moved.
Both alternatives would accommodate rezoning to commercial the land by the yellow house across from the church that was moved one year ago. The property owner’s plans for the land are currently unknown.
The department plans to purchase right-of-ways in 2012 and start construction in 2013. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2014. It is second on their list of road improvements across Greenville County.
This is a chance for Pelham Falls residents to control our destiny and protect our recreation space and home values. Please let your voice be heard by e-mailing your comments to project manager Tommy Elrod by Nov. 23 at elrodjt@scdot.org. Tommy can email you the official DOT hand-out and comment sheet for your review and submission.
